MEET YOUR HEART SPECIALIST
The Cardiological Society of India has more than 5,000 cardiologists. When it was time to choose their 74th President, they chose Dr. Vijay Bang - the first cardiologist from Mumbai to hold the office in 22 years - and he led the Society into its Platinum Jubilee.
That’s what his peers think of him. Here’s what his patients know.
He is the doctor who sits with you and explains your angiogram until it makes sense. Who asks whether you would rather avoid bypass surgery - and then finds a safe way to do it, when it can be done. Who has opened arteries so hard with calcium and so twisted that others hesitated. More than 10,000 times.
For over 20 years he has practised at Lilavati Hospital & Research Centre in Bandra, one of Mumbai’s leading hospitals. He served as Professor and Head of Cardiology at Grant Medical College & Sir J.J. Group of Hospitals, and today he trains India’s future heart specialists as a professor for DM and DNB Cardiology.
When cardiologists in Kenya needed help, he flew there to perform life-saving angioplasties and train local doctors. They wrote to the Prime Ministers of both nations calling him a “Saviour of Life”, and Kenya’s Foreign Minister named him a Goodwill Ambassador between India and Kenya.
Thirty years. Ten thousand angioplasties. Awards in India and abroad. But the number Dr. Bang cares about most is one: the patient in front of him.
MAKE TIME FOR YOUR HEART
Book a consultation with Dr. Vijay Bang at Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai. Bring your reports, your questions and your family. Leave with clarity.
LET'S START WITH YOU
Every heart patient arrives with a different fear. Pick the one that sounds most like yours. It takes ten seconds - and it takes you straight to the answers that matter to you.
Pain, pressure or heaviness in the chest - especially with sweating, breathlessness, or pain spreading to the arm, jaw or back - can be a heart attack. An emergency angioplasty, done in time, opens the blocked artery and saves heart muscle. Dr. Bang has performed emergency angioplasties for over three decades.
Most blockages can be treated through a tiny puncture in the wrist or groin - no cut to the chest, no long hospital stay. Before deciding, Dr. Bang looks inside the artery with IVUS/OCT imaging and measures blood flow with FFR, so a stent goes in only if you truly need one - in exactly the right place and size.
Many patients advised bypass - including those with multiple, calcified or twisted blockages - can be treated safely with advanced angioplasty. Complex angioplasty is Dr. Bang's speciality. Sometimes bypass is still the right answer. Either way, you deserve to know for certain.
Palpitations, giddiness and sudden blackouts (syncope) can signal a rhythm problem. A pacemaker - a small device placed under the skin - keeps your heartbeat steady so you can live without fear of the next episode.
Narrowed valves can be opened with a balloon (valvuloplasty). A worn-out aortic valve can be replaced through a catheter (TAVI). Holes such as ASD and PDA can be closed with a device - in children and adults alike.
Patients from across India and around the world send their angiography CDs and reports to Dr. Bang before making a big decision. Share yours and get a clear, honest recommendation.
If you have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoke, or have heart disease in the family, a check-up today can catch trouble years before it becomes an emergency.
Not sure which one fits? Just call. A real person answers, and no question about your heart is too small. +91 98200 30363

In many cases, yes. Advanced techniques such as IVUS/OCT imaging and Rotablator allow even complex, multiple or calcified blockages to be treated with angioplasty. Bypass is still the better choice for some patients, which is why an expert evaluation of your angiogram matters.
Most patients are walking within a day and go home within one to three days. Many return to light work within about a week. Dr. Bang will give you a recovery plan specific to your heart.
